New building blocks are inserted within the warehouse space to accommodate the bedrooms, bathrooms and retreat room. The remainder area forms the living space. The building blocks are clad in grids of clear and obscure glazed panels and parquetry flooring is used throughout the ground floor to reference the Edwardian period. <image:caption>Office-Studio and Caretakers House The design brief was to provide a flexible investment property in a commercial zone for the owners who work and live in an adjacent property. The flexible arrangement allows for either one single office, 2 or 3 separate smaller offices or a residence upstairs with office downstairs, plus 2 undercover car spaces and 2 additional spaces within the front setback, all on a small block of approximately 200 square metres. The form of the building envelope is defined by the prescribed setback to the north residential neighbour. Building materials including cream brick walls, galvanised steel windows, garage and entry doors were selected to be robust, secure and complementary to older commercial buildings on the adjacent properties. A central glazed court containing the stair provides abundant light to all rooms in the centre of the building. An overhead sliding steel screen protects the roof glazing from summer heat. The client brief was for a minimalist and restrained palate of material including American Oak timber ceiling and flooring, Tasmanian Grey granite tiling, finely articulated metalwork, loose-fit fittings and cabinetwork. The apartment has an external private swimming pool rarely available within the CBD.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Row House Port Melbourne Construction 2016 A single-storey row house and a loft over a rear garage, comprising a linear arrangement of 3 building pavilions between 2 courtyards, utilising the long narrow site and the rear lane frontage. The two house pavilions zone sleeping and living areas and are connected by a glazed exterior link as one moves from one pavilion to the next. Ample daylight enters the length of house via 5 large lantern lights rotated at 45 degrees to a north orientation to capture winter sun. The crisply detailed gable end vents to the house pavilions provide natural ventilation through the roof-space to avoid summer heat gain building up within the roof transmitting to the habitable spaces below.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Middle Park Cottage Construction 2017 A single- storey cottage replacing a timber heritage Edwardian cottage of similar massing destroyed by termite infestation. The floor level of the new building is raised off the ground to monitor and prevent future termite attack. Off-street parking is provided in a garage front assimilated into the domestic front elevation addressing streetscape and heritage guidelines. An attic storey within the cottage envelope contains a master bedroom suite. The selection of galvanised steel and cedar timber weathering cladding materials and crisp detailing reminiscent of shaker buildings delineate the building form.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Toorak House additions Construction 2021 Extending the existing house (previously renovated by this office for a different client in 2002) into the adjacent property purchased by the new client. The project comprises an additional wing providing a new relocated kitchen, a new loggia for outdoor entertaining, a new separate loft building over a 4-car garage, a pool and tennis court and a new pedestrian entry gateway to replace the existing one. The original selection of materials for the additions from the 2002 project is continued with the black painted wall boarding and galvanised steel framed glazing for all work not part of the 1930s original house. The new garage/loft building continues the black wall boarding and gabled roof pitch matching the original building, but in super-six galvanised steel finish. Arrival home by car is a pleasant entry experience into a bright daylit garage at ground level providing immediate views into the adjacent tennis court and garden area. A new kitchen/loggia wing incorporates a glazed and planted pergola to provide the perception of the kitchen being set within a garden space. The extensive glazing throughout is protected from summer sun with various shading devices including roof eaves, sliding and fixed timber louvres, and pergolas with deciduous planting.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Merricks Beach House Construction 2018 A large triangular site with an existing dwelling, outbuildings, deck and established landscaping. The dwelling was replaced with a new single-storey north-orientated pavilion building. The construction method includes a galvanised steel-framed structural mullion glazing system and prefabricated roof trusses and walls eliminating the necessity for further structural support elements. The external cladding envelope consists of galvanised steel and glass. The building is monochromatic on the outside, while inside is an explosion of colour finishes. The colour palette is thematically related to nature, with red floor for earth, green walls and brown joinery for plants, yellow skylight shafts for sun and blue walls integral to the skylight shafts for sky.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Middle Park Corner Shop Construction 2022 Completely reconfigured internal layout of a former Heritage protected corner shop and dwelling into a single residence leaving only one small room in its original form. New generous stair replacing existing stair to create generous entry and safe stair travel, altering ceiling and floor heights to create a third level for a study with city views and easily accessible bulk roof storage creating more floor area without the need for extending. The minor intervention on the original external fabric was done with seamless original details including swapping over entry door and window on the street façade to better accommodate a floor plan that favours a single dwelling rather than a shop and dwelling. Whilst the envelope was treated as a piece of historic fabric inside the internal detailing is contemporary and crisp with shadow line detailing and pivoting doors to contrast with the retained shell envelope.</image:caption>

<image:caption>East Melbourne Terrace reconfiguration Construction 2020 A 4-level residence re-built behind the retained existing façade and boundary walls, incorporating a new vertical circulation spine of crafted timber stair and lift servicing the multiple levels within the house. The clients’ top priority for an interior full of daylight was achieved by providing large glazed roofing areas symmetrically positioned around the vertical circulation spine. Automated shading devices protect the skylight glass from summer sun. Glazing to stacked timber framed landings beneath one of the skylights allows daylight to penetrate to the lower floor without loss of floor area. A second skylight opening over the circulation area adds spatial drama upon entering the house. The design was generated with split levels to address the 3 metre ground fall along the property from the street frontage to the rear lane frontage. Zoned areas of the residence are stepped down the site to suit the site fall. The split-level design of the living area also allows for borrowed daylight and long views from the basement gym. An elevated courtyard off the living room provides a direct and natural relationship between the residence and the outdoor living area. The diminishing rear elevation of the residence to the elevated bluestone paved courtyard spanning between the residence and a rear loft/garage allows increased penetration of afternoon sunlight. The separate rear loft/garage building has frontage to a rear lane.</image:caption>
